Campaigns to expose inhuman acts of the Cameroonian government has just recently taken a new dimension after a Priest was shot and killed by government soldiers. Rev Fr. Alexander Sob Nougi, Parish Priest of Bomaka, a Christian Community in South West Cameroon, West of Africa was shot and killed in Muyuka another South West town as he went visiting his family, Friday July 20, 2018. Since then, social media outings have intensified.
A Cameroonian Catholic Priest based in the USA, precisely from the Diocese of Buea, a town in South West Cameroon where the murdered Priest had served as the Education Secretary in the Diocese of Buea during which both priests were colleagues has made two powerful social media outings in just two days with the most recent making detritus of the Grand Master’s visit to Cameroon.
His Most Eminent Highness Fra’ Giacomo dalla Torre del Tempio di Sanguinetto, Prince and Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta, Most Humble Guardian of the Poor of Jesus Christ was in Cameroon from Tuesday July 17 – Thursday July 19, 2018.
With the Sovereign Military Order of Malta (SMOM) or the Order of Malta known as a Catholic lay religious order rooted in the 1983 code of Canon Law, founded by the Blessed Gerard as the Knights Hospitaller in Jerusalem with its headquarter now in Palazzo, Malta in Rome, Italy meant to protect the Catholic Church, the death of Fr. Alexander Sob coinciding with his parade and romance with the Cameroonian President, Paul Biya who is seeking reelection despite being over 90 years of age, despite being President since 1982 and despite the ongoing war in Cameroon, couldn’t have kept anyone indifferent.
Rev. Fr. Wilfred Emeh Epie, onetime Priest of the St Peter and Paul University of Buea Chaplaincy has described the visit of the Grand Master as imprudent. The Man of God said under the prevailing circumstances in which Cameroon is at war, it’s substandard for the Grand Master to have paraded himself in the corridors of the Unity Palace, dinning with and conferring accolades on President Paul Biya who has refused to solve the political crisis rocking his country.
Fr. Wilfred Emeh Epie while painting the current situation in Southern Cameroons worst than the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, adding that his people are being exterminated like cockroaches, condemned the UN and AU for maintaining a statement-making silence. I’m convinced the UN and AU haven’t demonstrated any real commitment to mediate in this menacing situation. It’s well known that France is pulling the strings to keep our nation, full of rich human and natural resources, captive, he wrote on his official Facebook page.
He furthered that the crisis has degenerated into a civil war that threatens global peace and stability, blaming Mr. Biya and his retinue for violating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in all facets as he quoted onetime Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan as saying that “African politicians must learn to retire at a minimum age of 70 years, but rather we have packed old men in our leadership, how could we move forward? Some are even above 80 years and still ruling.”
Ambazonia is the name now given to the former British Cameroons by over 95% of its over 10Million aborigines since their involvement in an armed conflict with government forces in Cameroon. National Telegraph gathered that over 4000 civilians, including a Ghanaian Pastor have been intentionally killed by the military since two years now for a movement that started as a peaceful protest. Today, citizens have picked up arms in self-defense and are now fighting for a complete breakaway from French Cameroun.
